Gaurav Shrestha’s (MBS) interest is quite different from others. He loves to express his idea through collage. To give direct impression, collage is a good technique. Gaurav is also searching for peace in his landscapes of Kathmandu, Moon and Sunset within clouds brings you joy. Collage using paper cut in Lord Buddha and landscapes of Kathmandu give good impression of paintings.

Their work depicting Nepalese culture in different perspectives successfully represented.

The collage work of Gaurav (MBS student) is unique from three of others in order of medium. His collages are simple pieces of paper torn from magazines, acrylics paints and composed into the images wholly from his imagination, gaining inspiration from natural world around him. Exploration of the beauty of sunset as well as full moon and landscapes through collage techniques is an exciting presentation of the medium as fine art.

Infinity’s Journey

Metro city newspaper – 3 June 2004
Park Gallery is currently hosting an art exhibition titled “Infinity’s Journey” by four young artists. Under a common theme of Peace, this exhibition is the third by the quartet.

Youngest among the four, Gaurav Shrestha has a distinct interest that puts him away from other fellow artists. He collages coloured paper-cuts and adds a little flavour of colours to give it a lively entity. He has worked with landscapes of Kathmandu, Pokhara, dawn, dusk and the moon.

FOUR ARTISTS beyond the finite

The Kathmandu Post – 2 June 2004
Like the famous Chinese saying goes, the journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. The Tibetan sage Milarepa also said the same thing. Well, in this case, it is just their third step in a journey that is to infinity. After two successful art exhibitions in the past, the group of four artists – Gaurav Shrestha, Ramesh KC, Suman Shrestha and Binod K. Gupta – has once again come up with a brilliant painting exhibition, entitled “Infinity’s Journey”.

Although united by their passion for creation, and of course, the ubiquitous desire for peace, each of the four artists retains their individuality and signature styles in their works.

For instance, Gaurav Shrestha, who also happens to be the youngest of them all, uses the collage medium to express himself on the canvasses. He has been able to create very beautiful and animate images using nothing but bits and pieces of magazine papers. Most of his works are depiction of landscapes, but some also speak of the present torments of the country and its people.

In all, the exhibition is like a perfect group exhibition with little of everything. From the vibrant colors of festivals to the gloomy depression of the present, and the images of the Buddha to the depiction of violence, the paintings have it all. Figurative and highly stylized, they serve to aptly represent the unfortunate incidents of the present but offer a glimmer of hope for the future.

The exhibition continues up to June 15 at the Park Gallery in Lazimpat.

Annapurna Post June 1, 2004

Festivals and bells for peace

The Himalayan Times – 31 May 2004
We used to measure our years by the Dashains we lived through and the festivals that added colour to our lives. Now, we measure our days by the increasing violence and mounting agitation. We search for peace but the search has become so long drawn and confusing we do not where to look. Is it hiding behind the eyes of the Buddha that weep tearlessly?

At the exhibition ‘Infinity’s Journey’ at Park Gallery, Lazimpat, four young artists come together for the third time to explore their creativity and recreate into art the phases that the world is going through.

Style is essential if one is to stand out from the rest and Gaurav Shrestha achieves this with his uniqueness. He paints on collage compositions of landscape. Bits of coloured papers stick together to become the twinkling lights of Kathmandu city at dusk or the flaming landscape of Pokhara from Sarangkot. Gaurav goes beyond putting together the picture of the ‘Sunrise’ and beautiful almost Pollock like work titled ‘Moon and Sunset Cloud’.

The exhibition continues till June 15.

Kantipur, May 29, 2004
