“I love creating collages using various types of materials and objects,” says Gaurav Shrestha on his 7th solo collage and mixed media paintings exhibition at Yala Maya Kendra, Patan Dhoka.
Initially starting with pencil sketches and water colour, Gaurav later moved on to various kinds of mixed media and since the last 9 years, has been creating collage paintings. Besides Nepal, his works have found collectors from India, Indonesia, Israel, France, USA, UK, Germany, Scotland and Netherlands.
“It has always been my desire to create unique & experimental art with new ideas through this collage medium,” expresses Gaurav, and in this exhibition are showcased art works crated from various kinds of acrylic materials & mixed media along with lungta (prayer flags), plastics, jute and posters. Gaurav makes the materials play with each other and with the colours to give a blend of textures and expressions.

काठमाडौं - अहिलेसम्म चित्रकलासम्बन्धी कुनै औपचारिक शिक्षा लिएका छैनन्। कुची चलाउन गुरुका रूपमा कसैले सिकाएका पनि छैनन् तापनि उनका जीवन्त कलाले जोसुकैलाई सजिलै आकर्षित गर्ने सामर्थ्य राख्छ। उनका हरेक चित्र कुनै वरिष्ठ कलाकारको भन्दा कम छैन। यस्ता अद्वितीय कलाका धनी हुन्, गौरव श्रेष्ठ। उनको सातौं एकल चित्रकला प्रदर्शनी राजधानीमा बिहीबार सम्पन्न भएको छ।
पाटनढोकास्थित यलमाया केन्द्रमा भएको प्रदर्शनीमा सैयौं कलाप्रेमी उनको चित्र हेर्न पुगेका थिए। कलाकार गौरव नयाँ विषयवस्तुमा प्रस्तुत हुन मन पराउँछन्। त्यसैले उनका प्रत्येक चित्रकला प्रदर्शनीमा फरकफरक विषयवस्तु समेटिएको पाइन्छ। यसपटकको प्रदर्शनीमा ‘प्रेयर फर ह्युमानिटी’ शीर्षकमा २० वटा कोलाज चित्र राखिएका थिए। वास्तवमा उनी एक व्यक्ति भए पनि अनेक शैलीका चित्रकलामा पारंगत छन्।
मानवताका लागी राम्रो कुरा हुनुपर्छ भन्ने आह्वानसहितको ओम, गणेश, सूर्य, बुध्द र झन्डाअंकित उनको चित्रले सबैमा आशाको संकेत दिएको छ। संसारभर मानव अस्तित्वका लागि सन्देश दिन खोजेका उनका चित्रले विभिन्न पञ्चतत्त्वलाई रङको संयोजन गराएर विश्वमा सधैं सकारात्मक सन्देश प्रवाह गरोस् भन्ने सन्देश दिएको छ।
गौरवले यस्ता कलासिर्जनामा ब्रसको प्रयोग गरेका छैनन्। ‘ब्रसले भन्दा हातले बनाउँदाको अनुभूति नै अर्कै हुँदोरहेछ’, सोझै क्यानभासमा हातका औंलाहरू चलाउँदै उतारेका चित्र देखाउँदै उनले भने। एकपटक कलाकार्यशालामा भाग लिन पुगेका गौरवले ब्रस बोक्न नै बिर्सेछन्। अनि त परेन फसाद! उनले हातैले पेन्टिङ गर्न थाले। औंलाले क्यानभासमा छुँदा सीधै मुटुमा छोए जस्तो लाग्यो उनलाई। यसरी फरक अनुभूति हुन थालेपछि ब्रस छाडेर हातले पेन्टिङ गर्न थालेको उनी बताउँछन्।
१४ वर्षदेखि कलाक्षेत्रमा लागेका गौरवले सन् २००० देखि भने कोलाज पेन्टिङमा काम गर्न थालेका हुन्। कम्प्युटर डिजाइनर पनि भएकाले उनलाई थप सजिलो भएको छ। ‘कम्प्युटरमा पनि आर्ट नै गर्ने हुनाले पेन्टिङमा अझ सजिलो भएको छ’, उनी भन्छन्।
उनी म्यानेजमेन्टका विद्यार्थी हुन्। तर कसरी सिके त चित्रकला? ‘यो मेरो सेल्फ स्टडी हो’, उनी भन्छन्। कलासम्बन्धी पुस्तक प्रसस्त अध्ययन गर्छन् उनी। हरेक कलाकारको पेन्टिङ गहिरिएर हेर्छन्, जसले उनलाई आफ्नो सिर्जना तिखार्न मद्दत पुर्याएको छ। त्यस्तै संसारका राम्राराम्रा र चर्चित कलाकारको जीवनी र उनीहरूले कलाक्षेत्रमा गरेको दुःख र संघर्षको पाटोलाई केलाएर हेर्नु उनको अर्को रुचीको विषय हो। त्यसो त गौरवले ललितकला क्याम्पसमा छात्रवृत्तिमा फाइन आर्ट अध्ययन गर्ने मौका पनि नपाएका होइनन् तर कक्षामा दोहोर्याई तेहेर्याई एउटै विषयमा मात्र पढाइ भएपछि उनलाई एउटै चित्र कति उतार्नु भन्ने लागेर कलेज जानै छाडेको उनी बतादँछन्।
विद्यालयमा अध्ययन गर्दादेखि नै राम्रो ड्रइङ गर्दै आउनुका साथै विद्यालयमा पनि चित्रकला विषय राखिएकाले उनलाई यसप्रति झन् चासो बढ्न थालेको हो। इन्फिनिटी समूहसँग आबद्ध गौरव हरेकपटक फरक सिर्जना गर्न रुचाउँछन्। दिनभरि देखेका र अनुभूत गरेका कुरालाई बेलुका आफ्नो सिर्जनाको विषयवस्तु बनाउने उनी पेन्टिङ गर्न बसेपछि सात, आठ घन्टा नै किन नलागोस्, एकै टेकमा चित्रकला सिध्याउने बानी छ। चित्रकलासँगै संगीतमा पनि त्यत्तिकै सौखिन उनी केही सांगीतिक समूहसँग पनि आबद्ध छन्।
गौरवको एकल चित्रकला

काठमाडौं | क्यानभासमा विभिन्न प्रयोग गर्न रुचाउने युवा कलाकार गौरव श्रेष्ठको सातौं एकल चित्रकला प्रदर्शनी सुरु भएको छ। ‘प्रेयर फर ह्युमानिटी’ शीर्षकको प्रदर्शनीमा बीस वटा चित्रकला राखिएका छन्। फ्ल्याक सिरिज, ॐ, गणेश र बुद्धको बिम्बमा कलाकार गौरवले आध्यात्मिक दर्शनको चिन्तन मनन गर्नुभएको छ। “आत्मासाथ गर्न सक्यौं भने जुन वस्तुमा पनि भगवान्को रूप पाउन सकिन्छ”, कलाकार गौरव भन्नुहुन्छ – “ॐ को उच्चारणले हरेक मान्छेमा सकारात्मक विचार र भाव आउँछन्। त्यसैलाई मैले चित्रमा उतारेको छु।”
उहाँका चित्रकृतिमा पञ्चतत्वका रूपमा पाँचवटा रङ (रातो, निलो, पहेलो, सेतो र हरियो) प्रयोग गरिएको छ । गौरवले चित्रमा निलो, पहेलो, रातो र सुन्तला रङको बढी प्रयोग गरेको पाइन्छ। “रङको मिश्रणबाट पनि मनमा शान्ति लिन सकिन्छ”, गौरव थप्नुहुन्छ। उहाँले चित्रमार्फत सधैं सकारात्मक भावना राख्नु नै चित्रको विषेशता भएको बताउनुभयो। प्रदर्शनी पाटनढोकाको यलमाया केन्द्रमा वैशाख १७ गतेसम्म सञ्चालन हुने बताइन्छ।

Artist Gaurav Shrestha’s seventh solo collage & mixed media painting exhibition ‘Prayer for Humanity’ began from Sunday at Yala Maya Kendra, Lalitpur.
Shrestha has applied different materials including acrylics, mixed media, lungta (prayer flags), plastic jute and poster to fabricate his paintings. He said that the materials he has used compliment each other and his colours give a blend of textures and expressions to them.
Shrestha, who has been creating collage paintings for last nine years, said, “I love creating collages using various types of materials. I even use found objects that can match my creativity and it has always my desire to create unique & experimental artworks with new ideas through the collage medium.”
He has been actively involved in various painting competitions, exhibitions and workshops since 1994.
The exhibition inaugurated by CPN-UML leader Modnath Prashrit will remain open till April 30.
क्यानभासमा मानवीय भावना

काठमाडौं / रास – हुन त कलाकार गौरव श्रेष्ठले अहिलेसम्म पेन्टिङसम्बन्धी औपचारिक प्रशिक्षण लिएका छैनन्। तर, पनि उनले चित्रकला पढेका चित्रकारले जस्तै सुन्दर चित्रकला सिर्जना गरिरहेका छन्। उनका चित्रहरू कलाप्रेमीहरूले पनि रूचाएका नै छन्। आफूले अहिलेसम्ममा ६ पटक त एकल चित्र प्रदर्शनिनै गरिसकेका गौरवले जानकारी गराए।
यही क्रममा उनले आइतबारबाट आफ्नो सातौं एकल चित्रकला प्रदर्शनी सुरू गरेका छन्। ललितपुरको पाटनढोकास्थित ‘यल माया केन्द्र’ मा उनको एकल चित्रकला प्रदर्शन गरिएको छ। जसलाई एक कार्यक्रमबीच संस्कृतिविद् मोदनाथ प्रश्रितले आइतबारसाँझ उद्घाटन गरेका थिए। पाँच दिनसम्म चल्ने आफ्नो चित्रकला प्रदर्शनीको शीर्षक गौरवले ‘प्रेयर फर हयुमनिटी’ राखेका छन्।
आफ्नो प्रदर्शनीमार्फत संसारभरि नै मानव अस्तित्वका लागि सन्देश दिन खोजेको कलाकार गौरव श्रेष्ठ बताउँछन्। उनले भने, ‘मैले विभिन्न पाँच तत्वलाई पाँच रंगको संयोजन गराएर यी चित्र तयार पारेको छु। यसले विश्वमा सधैं सकरात्मक सन्देश प्रवाह गर्छ।’
हुन पनि उनले आफ्नो क्यानभासमा मानवको अन्तरमनको भावनालाई चित्रमार्फत उतारेका छन्। यसरी भावनालाई कलामा उतार्नुले उनको कलाकारिताको पहिचान फरक बनाएको छ। सो प्रदर्शनीमा २० चित्रकलाहरू रहेका छन्।

Kathmandu: “Sometimes the written texts alone are note sufficent to convey a message, so I have added colours to my creations,” said artist Gaurav Shrestha, whose seventh solo art exhibition titled, ‘Prayer for Humanity’ opened at the Yala Maya Kendra on April 26. The exhibition was inaugurated by litterateur and critic Modanath Prashrit.
The collection includes collage and mixed media paintings. Basically, the artist has used the lungta (prayer flags of Buddhism), plastics, jute and posters in his paintings with an aim to appeal to everyone for humanity.
In this exhibition Shrestha has mostly used the lungtas of different colours. He has placed posters of Ganesh (a Hindu god) in his painting titled ‘The Auspicious Beginnng’. Then there is another piece titled ‘Eternal Voice’ where Shrestha has painted Om (Sanskrit alphabet).
The artist has mostly used bold colours like orange and blue. Even though colours merge at some part of the canvas, most of the space is covered by one distinct colour. In a painting titled ‘The Sun’, Shrestha has used a dark red colour to represent the fiery side of the star.
As the title suggests, the paintings in the exhibition convey a message of humanity. Pointing to a painting titled ‘A prayer for humanity’ Shrestha said, “This semi-abstract painting is my favourite. Although I have been able to create this piece this time, I don’t think that I would be able to do it again,” he said adding that he has used his fingers instead of brushes to paint this particular piece.
“The artist has been successful in conveying the message of humanity through his paintings,” said Sanyam Bajracharya, an art lover adding that the paintings are new in flavour.
The exhibition is on till April 30.
Gaurav’s freehand art goes on show

After a successful art show in Bangladesh and India, Gaurav Shrestha is doing his solo collage and mixed media painting exhibition here in the valley. The theme and title of his exhibition is “Prayer for Humanity”. Social analyst, critic and litterateur Modnath Prashrit inaugurated the exhibition and analysed the works closely.
Gaurav Shrestha’s latest presentation is a unique expression of his creation. Why? Well, first he plays with colours and not with a brush. He says, “People may not believe that I have not used a brush to do the paintings displayed at the exhibition here.” He says that he is used to creating art with his hands and palms so that he can feel the texture in his art as it is being created. And second, he says that the texture and expression in his creations are priorities to the artist. He shares that his art is in a semi-abstract form. He has used prayer flags as a symbol and five elements panchatatwa that are vital to human life. A prominent feature of his paintings on display is the synchronisation of Hindu and Buddhist elements. Another semi-abstract form in his art can be seen in his way of blending the physical art with sound and reflection.
The exhibition features 20 paintings which were made over a one-year period. The art exhibition continues from April 26-30 at Yala Maya Kendra, Patan.
