Spiritual Abstractions

Exhibition of 4th solo collage paintings

@ The Art Shop, Durbarmarg
27 September – 6 October 2007

Gaurav’s words

Collage is a meditative art for me. I love creating beautiful collages and spend several hours experimenting with it. I make use of a number of materials within my collages such as various papers including lokta, fabric and as well as jute.

Amazing transformations happened to my latest new art formations as I enjoy the process of transforming a plain piece of papers, fabric & jute into artwork.

During the past eight years my art shifted to focus on collage more than other mediums. These collages also involve an elaborative process that transforms old scrap objects into a new art form. I arrange whatever pieces come to my way of imagination and creativity. Feelings that unfolds and explores the balance within, is the focus of my work.

Spiritual Abstractions

ECS – November 2007
Gaurav Shrestha portrayed his colleciton of ‘Spiritual Abstractions’ over a range of canvases illuminating abstract art in a vivid and colorful tone. To a layman, it is sometimes difficult to understand the beauty and the depth of a collage and abstract art. Thus, a certain beauty lies in unraveling and interpreting the unknown. The etchings comprised a collection with noting, with its mixed mediums of acrylics, newspaper cuttings, lokta paper, fabric including jute and geometrical artwork in colorful shades. One piece artfully displayed an assorted collection of colors, musical notes and strips of jean materials, which indicated the artist’s youthfulness and innovative inclinations. The art seemed to express the soulful and spiritual attitude of the artist that, even to a novice, imparted a strong sense of energy exuding boldness and novelty.
